2025 International Society of Forest Resource Economics (ISFRE) Symposium
The International Society of Forest Resource Economics (formally SOFEW) hosts its annual meetings every spring to bring together representatives of industry, consulting, academia, and federal and state agencies to discuss current issues in the economics of forestry, timber markets, timberland investments, and forest products trade.
The 2025 annual meeting of the International Society of Forest Resource Economics is (ISFRE) scheduled from March 10-12, 2025, at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Myrtle Beach, SC, is known for its golf courses, beachfront boardwalk arcades, souvenir stands and restaurants, particularly the Family Kingdom amusement park and the Sky Wheel, one of the country's tallest Ferris wheels.
Forestry and natural resources professionals, academics, executives, and students (undergraduate and graduate) from all disciplines and career levels are welcome and encouraged to submit an abstract and attend this annual gathering. 2025 Meeting Outline: The meeting will be from Monday, March 10 through Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
- Monday, March 10 - Arrival and registration followed by field tour. Schedule hotel arrival before 2:30 PM for field tour.
- Tuesday, March 11- Technical sessions (all day)
- Wednesday, March 12 – Business meeting & technical sessions (half day)
Conference Highlights
- There will also be a panel discussion on changing forest industry patterns in the southern region and the potential impact of recent mill closure on sustainable forestry practices.
- General presentations include topics in the economics of forestry, forest management, forest carbon, climate change, wildfire, non-market and ecosystem services, economic contributions, timberland investments, timber market, policy and trade, etc.
- Student posters will be automatically enrolled for Student Poster Awards.
- Continuing education credits from Society of American Foresters will be provided.

- The field trip will be on Monday, March 10 after the registration session. It will include visits for forest mills in the region as well as coastal conservation initiatives against climate change and demographic challenges. Make sure to plan your travel arrangements to attend it on time for the 1st day of the meeting. Journal of Forest Business Research. The conference resort is tucked away along the famous northern end of Myrtle Beach, providing plenty of opportunities for beach walks, and the guests can enjoy an on-site restaurant, a lounge, and a poolside bar during their stay. Other local amenities are available nearby.

Awards & Conference Proceeding
The Journal of Forest Business Research will offer three awards of $200 each to recognize outstanding research presented at ISFRE 2025. Additionally, each award recipient would receive a complimentary publication option in the Journal of Forest Business Research (JFBR).
The Journal is open to organizing a special issue featuring selected papers from ISFRE participants, with a goal of publishing at least five papers if there is sufficient interest.
Abstracts & presentations
(both poster and paper) will be compiled in a conference processing & published at the ISFE website. After the conference, the corresponding author will get a request to submit a final proceeding copy, which will be peer-reviewed before publishing.
